She earned the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Cy Coleman’s The Life and a second Tony nomination for Fela! Her extensive credits include Dreamgirls, Cats, Carrie, Once on This Island, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Chicago, and Hadestown, as well as OBIE and NAACP Award-winning performances in Romance in Hard Timesand Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. On screen, she won a Daytime Emmy for Sesame Street, voiced the muse Calliope in Disney’s Hercules, and appeared in Pieces of April, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Get Down, Russian Doll, and Search Party. She has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, and her 2021 solo album Get Yourself Some Happy! reimagines Motown, standards, Broadway, and jazz through her singular voice.
